Glowing Obsidian is a Block that is created briefly whenever the Nether Reactor is activated. The Gold and Cobblestone blocks convert into this block once the Nether Reactor Core is used. Glowing Obsidian first appeared in Update 0.5.0.

It is unobtainable in Minecraft Pocket Edition unless inventory editors or mods are used, and can be found in MCPE only if the Player destroyed the core when the reactor started working before Update 0.12.1.

Trivia

  • It takes the same amount of time as regular Obsidian to mine, but when mined without Silk Touch, the block drops as normal Obsidian.
  • It has a glow light level of 12, so it can be used as a light source.
  • It emits red smoke particles when the Player is close to it, similar to Redstone Ore.
  • It could be mined with an Iron Pickaxe before Update 0.7.3.
  • As of Update 0.12.1, Glowing Obsidian is no longer obtainable due to the Nether being added. It can still be obtained by using inventory editing or mods.
  • If the Player mined the Nether Reactor Core while the Reactor was on, the Glowing Obsidian would stay and the Player could keep it after Update 0.12.1.
