  • Hey, holroy, I don't believe User Guide creation is allowed anymore. Before creating a new page, I would suggest asking an admin beforehand.

You are correct, but I just wanted to make sure an Admin knew about it, to be safe.

  • The appliance definition is, according to the category page, anything that has a functional use in the game. I thought previously that it means a block that has a domestic use, such as a furnace. Though the category includes that, the block you added to the category counts.

I undid your addition to the Dropper page with the previous rationale, but after checking the category I found that the rationale was wrong.

I am messaging you to tell you because of me you may have to re-add the category. :/ My bad.

    • I re-added them, as I do believe they belong there.

Thanks, by the way, for correcting my bad writing, spelling or grammar. I'm not a native English speaker, but I do like to contribute.  :-)

  • Hey there Holroy!

I recently noticed some of your edits- I felt they were too detailed for trivia and did not necessarily give the reader any useful information. Personally, I feel such information (which does not help a Player or gives unnecessary details) is unneeded.

    Thanks,

    • Do you have some examples, as I've only added bits I wished I found earlier on when looking at the wiki.

    • To me Trivia is tidbits of information, which can be a little random, but that still provides useful information to some of the readers.

    • For example, let us take your edit to the Mineral Veins page-

Most Mineral Veins will cover blocks within a 2x2x2 block at least. This allows for mining strategies not revealing each and every block, as a 1x1 hole will cover a 3x3 area, or even 5x5 area allowing for some minor lossage in the corners. This can make the Players mining a lot more efficient.

Here, there are a lot of grammatical errors (Players should be Player's) and the sentences don't really make much sense (lossage is slang, really).

Besides this, I don't really seem to understand what is being conveyed here through "mining strategies" and the 1x1 2x2 holes explanation.

If I am unable to comprehend, I imagine readers too may face such while reading.

I'm not trying to be offensive, you understand. I am simply giving you a heads up that not all of your edits make sense or are fit to be on a page.

Hmm... I'm not being offended, and I do want to contribute something useful.

Yet again, not good if not understood either. The edit is the rationale behind not needing to mine not every second block, but rather every third block since you seldomly have a mineral vein in only a 1x2x2 configuration. Due to the 3D distribution of the mineral veins, one sees surrounding blocks even when digging only a 1x1(x5) peek hole, which in effect covers a larger block of at least 3x3 (x6), or even 5x5 (x6) with at the cost of digging one hole for a depth of 5 blocks.

But this is advanced mining, preserving time, resources and energy, and should possibly be explained in detail in a blog post (or user guide) or similar.

  • I believe you may have spamming this category in a way. I understand that anvils and most of the other objects are in a sense tools in real life, but in the MCPE wiki definition, they are items that aid in the breaking of blocks or carry out some other function while held in the hand of the Player. However, since I feel this is in a way erroneous, you may have to ask an admin if the definition on the category page could be changed so that it is much broader.

    • It must be important, though, to separate a device from a tool. Both have a specialized function, but only tools can be used to perform the tasks of, say, fixing an item. A Dispenser wouldn't be a tool since it only functions in shooting items out.

I've created a thread, Thread:131549 , where I asked for opinions, and as stated there some of the appliances had already been added to the Tools category, so I've only completed the categorisation, and which definition of a tool to be used is not very clear.

And the device vs tool distinction is already in there using Appliances category. But there is nothing disqualifying a handheld tool vs an appliance (or device).

So, there is and will most likely be some confusing anyway, but I think the way it is now is better than the initial situation.

  • Hey there,

I read your sandbox edit for the Potions article- I don't think we should remove the table as it is both visually appealing and keeps the article from being too long.

I'd prefer to keep the current version, with few of the modifications you made.

I personally, don't really like the changes, though I won't mind keeping a poll if you want. Just make sure to fix all the grammar errors in your sandbox.

Having a poll seems like a good idea. Just give me a day or two to polish it some more, and I'll get back to you.

By the way, if I reply on this thread, would you get notified directly, or do I need to quote you to notify you that a response is here? (Or should I start a new message thread on your poll?)

    • Okay then, I'll await a response.

Also, yes- Quoting is only an optional feature- I would get a notification even if you didn't quote me.

  • Hey Holroy, first of all I'll like to thank you for greatly expanding the Commands page. You really have done so much work on it, and I really appreciate your hard work and dedication. :)

Now, on a more unpleasant note, I see that you are making multiple edits on the page. I know what you are doing, and as I said, I really appreciate your hard work, but please put all of the info you want to put on the page in one edit. Otherwise, it can be seen as edit/badge farming.

Thank you for reading, and Happy Editing!

    • In most context the summary is the shorter version, giving the gist of everything, whilst the list is the longer version with all the details. At least that is what I've encountered in numerous text books (related to computer programming & co) during my studying for a Master degrees some years back.

Maybe it would be better to start the page with "Summary of Commands", and then just have a "Commands" section?

And yes, fewer edits would be better, so from now on if I do something similar, I'll most likely use my Sandbox for all the "temporary" addition building up for the greater edit of the page in question.

I have been taught the complete opposite. Summaries often are much more longer than lists, and contain more details/facts; whereas a list includes the connected words or phrases. The summaries explain the lists, you could say. Summaries are meant to be short, but in comparison to lists, they are longer. It depends on what the central idea of the context is, and what details are provided to support it. In this case, the list is much more smaller than the summary.

If this really bothers you, feel free to ask Darth or another staff member. However, the person who edited the page to switch the titles is an experienced editor. Of course, even the most "perfect" people make mistakes, but I agree with him on this one.

  • Hello , as you are an active user, you have been cordially invited to join our Discord server. Discord is a way to communicate between online gamers, of your choice. Discord uses 'servers' as different communities to chat. On Discord, the MCPE wiki has a server where many people have joined, including most of our staff team. You can chat with fellow wikians, play with bots, mess with commands, and much more! There is also ways to report issues on the wiki there.

Like the idea? If so, just message down below and I can send you an instant invite to our server! Feel free to ask questions as well. :)

    • Sorry for not answering before... Been a little busy. Is this the MCPEWiki / WikiCraft discord channel, or another one?

I've also joined play.mcpewiki.com, and is known as holroyMcpe on the server and discord.

But please, let me know if there is another channel, and send me the invite. :-)

You are a candidate for content mod right? Just wanted to wish you good luck. You are one of more promising candidates. I have also applied for it, but I think you are more likely to win. :)
