Netherrack is a Block that was added in Update 0.6.0. It is exclusively obtained from The Nether.
Mining
Netherrack may be mined with any Pickaxe.
Smelting
- 1 Netherrack + Any Fuel => 1 Nether Brick.
Trivia
- Netherrack is the most abundant Block in The Nether.
- Netherrack is the only Block which permanently stays on Fire once lit with a Flint and Steel. This Block can also be lit by a Ghast when it shoots a Fire Charge at the Player.
- Netherrack can be easily broken by hand, being the first Stone-type Block to do so. However, it cannot be obtained by doing so, but this can be useful if the Player gets stuck in the Nether with no Pickaxe.
- Netherrack used to be obtained by the Nether Reactor, but since it was removed in Update 0.12.1, it is only obtainable through the Nether.
- From Update 0.6.0 to Update 0.11.0, the Nether Spire was completely comprised of Netherrack, and later would turn into Obsidian. This was removed when the Nether Reactor was removed.
- If a Nether Portal is over an Ocean, Netherrack will generate in the Overworld.
