Usage

Redstone Comparators are primarily used in Redstone circuits to maintain, compare, or subtract signal strength, or to measure certain Block states, including the fullness of Containers such as ChestsBrewing Stands, and Furnaces. It can also indicate how much Cake is left.

While the normal position is next to the container it measures the fullness of, the Comparator is able to detect this through a block. This allows for a Chest on one side of the wall, and the comparator on the other side of the wall.

A full container gives a signal strength of 15, and will decrease down towards 0 if the container is empty. The Item Frame will also give a signal referring to rotation of Item in Item Frame. No Item give signal strength 0, and then from no rotation till full rotation the signal varies from 1 through 8.

The Comparator has two modes; Subtraction Mode and Comparison Mode. When the single light is lit, it is in Comparison Mode. When the Player hits the comparator it switches modes.

Trivia

  • The Comparator cannot be locked, unlike Redstone Repeaters.
  • The Player can make a Redstone clock by connecting a Comparator to some Redstone dust.
  • The Player can make a Redstone delaying system using 2 or more Comparators and some Redstone.
  • Comparators can create temporary Airlocks if placed underwater.
  • It is often confused with Redstone Repeaters.
