Redstone Comparators are Blocks that were added in Update 0.14.0. They are a Redstone-related block.
Crafting
- 3 Redstone Torches + 1 Quartz + 3 Stone Blocks => 1 Redstone Comparator
Usage
Redstone Comparators are primarily used in Redstone circuits to maintain, compare, or subtract signal strength, or to measure certain Block states, including the fullness of Containers such as Chests, Brewing Stands, and Furnaces.
The Comparator has two modes; Subtraction Mode and Comparison Mode. When the single light is lit, it is in Comparison Mode. When the Player hits the comparator it switches mode.
Trivia
- Item Frames generate a Redstone signal with Redstone Comparators when the object inside the Item Frame is rotated 4 times or more.
- The Comparator cannot be locked, unlike Redstone Repeaters.
- The Player can make a Redstone clock by connecting a Comparator to itself.
- The Redstone Comparator will have more power depending on how full a Container is next to it.
- Comparators can create temporary Airlocks if placed underwater.
- It is often confused with Redstone Repeaters.
