Redstone Ore is an Ore Block that can be mined to drop Redstone Dust using an Iron Pickaxe or higher.

Obtaining

Redstone Ore can be found deep underground below layer 15 of the world. It spawns in large veins like Coal Ore and drops 4-5 pieces of Redstone Dust at a time. The ore block itself can be obtained by using a Pickaxe Enchanted with Silk Touch.

Trivia

• Redstone Ore did not drop anything until Update 0.8.0.
• Redstone Ore lights up for 45 seconds and has a particle effect if mined, a Torch is placed on it, or walked over.
  • This is because Redstone Ore is actually a BUD (Block Update Detector), just like an Observer.
  • The light emitted by a Redstone Ore is not bright enough to stop Mobs from spawning, unlike a Torch or Glowstone.
• Redstone Ore was one of the first ores implemented into the game's code.
• It has the same luminosity as a Redstone Torch.
• Mining it with a Fortune enchanted pickaxe will increase its yield.
