Shears are one of the 8 types of tools, that are mainly used to shear sheep and to obtain Cobwebs, Leaves, Vines and Tall Grass.

Uses

The main use of Shears is to harvest Wool from Sheep without killing them. The Sheep will be rendered with no coat, but will grow it back after they eat Grass. Upon shearing a Sheep, you will get 1-3 Wool, the color of which will depend on the color of the Sheep sheared. Shears can also be used on LeavesVines and Tall Grass to harvest that block.

Crafting

2 Iron Ingots = 1 shears

Trivia

  • Unlike most other tools, Shears have no upgrades (pickaxes have wooden pickaxes, stone pickaxes, and so on while Shears have none).
  • Shears mine Stone faster than hand, however it's recommended to use a pickaxe as it's faster and the Stone is dropped.
  • Shearing Sheep is more efficient than killing them, because if you were to kill a Sheep it would only drop 1 Wool upon death, while with Shears you can get from 1-3 Wool, and the Sheep will eventually regrow their Wool, making it renewable.
  • Shears are unique in that they are one of two tools to not require Sticks to craft, the other being Flint and Steel.
