Shears are one of the 8 types of tools, that are mainly used to shear sheep and to obtain Cobwebs, Leaves, Vines and Tall Grass.
Uses
The main use of Shears is to harvest Wool from Sheep without killing them. Upon shearing a Sheep, the player will get 1-3 Wool, the color of which will depend on the color of the Sheep sheared. Shears can also be used on Leaves, Vines, dead bushes, and Tall Grass to obtain the respective block. It can also be used to destroy wool blocks fast while it takes no durability damage.

Trivia
- Unlike most other tools, Shears have no upgrades.
- Shears mine Stone slightly faster than hand.
- Shearing Sheep is more efficient than killing them, because if you were to kill a Sheep it would only drop 1 Wool upon death, while with Shears you can get from 1-3 Wool, and the Sheep regrow their Wool, making it renewable.
- Shears are unique in that they are one of few tools to not require Sticks to craft, the others being Flint and Steel, Clocks and Compasses.
- Shears can also be used to shear Mooshrooms for red mushrooms.
