Stairs are blocks similar to real stairs. They are used for making roofs, getting up and down abandoned mineshafts fast and for houses. Stairs were added in 0.5.0.
Crafting
Stairs require 6 blocks of whatever material you're making them out of. So far, Brick, Wooden, Cobblestone, Sandstone, Stone Brick, Nether Brick and Quartz stairs are craftable.
